Who We Are
And Why We're Here
John Kothrade is founder and owner of JPC Custom Homes, Twin Cities-based custom homebuilder and remodeling company. John established what would become JPC Custom Homes back in 1984, with the goal of being not just another construction company, but one that builds for life.
Working in the industry since 1979, John grew tired of the shortcuts many builders use to lower costs and fast track construction. Knowing homeowners deserved better, he set up shop for himself. He wanted to be proud of what he was building, so he built a team around a few basic principles: quality, integrity, communication, and professionalism.
But our reputation for these principles goes beyond our work with homeowners to our relationships with fellow professionals in the field. We've been working with many of the same craftsmen and suppliers since our inception, allowing us to build with the utmost skill, service, and materials available.
That's why JPC Custom Homes is now one of the most respected residential homebuilders in the greater Minneapolis-St.Paul area. And with the addition of Phillip Kothrade, John's son, back in 2009, JPC's rich history will certainly live on well into the future.
Whether building a custom home or remodeling an existing one, we make sure even the smallest of details represents the time-honored craftsmanship and personal touch we're known for.
You can trust that good enough isn't good enough for us. From site analysis and planning to architectural design and construction, quality is the first of our priorities. We build it into every decision, every plan, and every detail.
For JPC Custom Homes, our job means more than making sure your home is up to code. It's about taking the time to listen to your wants and needs, find an appreciation for your personal style, and translate it into a space that fits your taste, life, and budget.
It all starts with establishing a collaborative partnership, where we can then help you choose a building site, plan the design or remodel, select the ideal materials, and work with our crew throughout the construction process.
JPC Custom Homes is truly a family-owned and operated business. Many of our core team members bare the Kothrade name.
John Kothrade is the founder, owner, and president of JPC Custom Homes. As you probably suspect, John oversees the overall operation and management of the business. He started in the industry back in 1979 as a framer and expanded into other trades from there. He is a man of few words but has a wealth of home design and construction knowledge. Though he's the president of our company, John still very much enjoys the construction process, and you'll often find him on site with the rest of the crew.
Jane Kothrade is John's wife and business partner at JPC Custom Homes. After nearly 10 years of insurance administration experience, it seemed like a natural transition to oversee and manage office operations for the company — something she's now been doing since the very beginning. Today, Jane has taken on even more responsibility, working closely with clients and subcontractors on the selections and budgets for each project. She also deals with mortgage and title companies for closings, making sure we really are a one-stop shop and ensuring a seamless process from beginning to end.
Operations Manager/Real Estate
Phillip Kothrade is one of John and Jane's four children. And from a very early age, Phillip was interested in the family business, tagging along to jobsites and sketching home plans on summer breaks. So, it came as no surprise that he chose to study construction management at Moorhead State Community and Technical College. After graduation, he opted to get some construction experience outside of JPC Custom Homes, working as a carpenter in the residential, commercial, and industrial iron industries. Having the same work ethic and principles as his father, he earnestly came back to the company. Today, he handles all of our sales, estimating, and real estate.
Joel Lemke grew up in the construction industry, learning the trade at the ripe old age of 14 from his uncle who was a builder — which is probably why he's such an exceptionally skilled carpenter with an unsurpassed level of integrity and attention to detail. Joel's been working with John and fellow professionals for more than 30 years, doing everything from framing to maintenance. He is about as close to family as you get. Joel is currently our "onsite guy," overseeing the ins and outs of the jobsites.
